2001-2002 - All year:  The GVAAC has adopted Literacy Volunteers of America and Habitat for Humanity as our service projects for the year. Be sure to get involved with the GVAAC and these great community service projects this year!

12/1/01: The GVAAC ended 2001 by raffling off two AU/UAT football tickets and distributing canned goods to the Christian Service Center for families in need during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Year end dues paying family memberships in the GVAAC were 138 and we averaged 121 members in attendance at our 4 meetings for this year. 2002 will only bring more AU speakers and community service to the Valley so be sure to renew your membership today!

10/11/01: Fall Meeting with AU Women's Basketball Coach Joe Ciampi and AU Alumni Director Betty Dement. 2002 GVAAC Officers and Directors sworn in and introduced. GVAAC 2002 Officers are Jody Elmore (President), Jason Williams (Vice - President), Henry Bledsoe (Secretary), and Doug Hodnett (Treasurer). New Directors for 2002 include Owen Hodges, Jr. who assumes the past president position on the Board of Directors.

07/31/01: The Fall meeting will be held at the Langdale United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Valley, AL. Guest will be AU Women's Basketball Coach Joe Ciampi, and we hope to have Aubie and the cheerleaders in attendance. Meal cost for adults is $8.00 and for kids 12 and under it is $5.00. Program begins at 7PM EST. We will also be collecting canned food goods for the local food banks to distribute to needy families this fall.

07/12/01:  GVAAC Summer meeting with AU Athletic guests Kim Evans (AU Women's Golf Coach) and Celeste Troche (AU Women's Golf Team, SEC Player of the Year, All American, All SEC, and local graduate of Springwood Academy. Meeting will be held at the Langdale United Methodist Family Life Center on July 12 and start 6:30 PM EST.

06/05/01:  The 2000-2001 GVAAC Academic Scholarship is awarded to Andrew Looser from Lanett High School.

04/30/01:  The Annual GVAAC Top Ten Junior Recognition Banquet took place with over 100 local students and parents in attendance. All six of our local high schools were represented, including Beulah High, Chambers Academy, LaFayette High, Lanett High, Springwood Academy, and Valley High. Representatives from the AU Admissions, Financial Aid, and Scholarship Offices discussed the college application process and the various loans, grants and scholarships that are available from AU.

04/02/01:  The Spring 2001 meeting was held on April 2nd. Jody Elmore (GVAAC Vice-President) presided over the program and introduced Local State Representatitve Duwayne Bridges to make a surprise presentation to the club. Rep. Bridges presented the club with an AL House Resolution - HJR 159 - recognizing the club for winning the "Most Improved Club" and "Best Reporting" awards at the AU Club Conference in February. Guests for the spring meeting were AU Offensive Line Coach Hugh Nall (who was accompanied by his daughter Smith), and AU Alumni Board Members Tom Bryan and Roy Richardson. Coach Nall gave the club a preview of the upcoming 2001 AU Football team and was presented with a framed picture of SEC Player of the Year Rudi Johnson.

02/03/01:  The GVAAC came away from the AU Club Conference with two awards for our performance in 2000. Owen Hodges (GVAAC President) accepted the "Most Improved Club" award and Jason Williams (GVAAC Secretary) accepted the "Best Club Reporting" award. War Eagle and Job Well Done!

01/01/01:  The outgoing GVAAC Board approves incoming Officers and Directors for 2001. Owen Hodges, Jody Elmore, and Jason Williams will remian in their officer duties as last year (President, Vice-President, and Secretary), while Doug Hodnett was named Treasurer. New members of the Board of Directors for this year will be Bill Thomas (Finance) and Sam Bradford (Education Liaison).
